- Locations
- UMD, JHU/APL, Gallaudet U, and Mi Rancho
are still good locations
- Morgan State? May be a long haul for
an evening meeting
- Catholic U may be an option again (Upton
to follow up)
- Still need a N. Virginia location
- The American Center for Physics (College
Park, MD) is a new location. **Action: Steve Benka to reserve
space for the April 6, 2005 meeting
- Schedule
- April 6 -- first 2005 meeting
- June, September, December
- Speakers
- Juan Arvelo compiled a list of
suggestions.
- Try to get Murray Strasberg soon
- Request for a joint meeting from North
Carolina Chapter of ASA
- Consensus was that, even if the meeting
was held in Richmond, the travel would be too far.
- Investigate "Speaker Exchange"
program as a start
- Official Charter and Bylaws
- Basic versions exist on website
- We need to get complete set drafted and
submitted
- Suggested Executive position term limits --
1 year, though there is no reason that people cannot be reelected.
- We could potentially request a waiver from
the nominal ASA chapter calendar (Exec. meetings in the spring, year
starts 15 May) so that we could continue with the existing schedule
(Calendar year, executive meeting in first quarter).
- Chapter funds
- Need to submit 2004 Treasury Report before
3/31/05
- $500/year
- $5/head at meetings
- 80% of honoraria up to $500/year
- $200/year for Science Fair student awards
- $200/year for University Student
Participation Award and travel expenses
- $200/year for talks at schools
- Never got complete reimbursement for 2003
honoraria
- Arvelo to follow up with ASA
- Account balance cannot exceed $2000 without
a waiver
- Mentoring and Demo requests from Falls Church Schools
- For K-12 demos, we need to have a
"kit" that we can use for outreach (equipment?)
- Paul Arveson to coordinate efforts
- ASA Demo CD and AIP materials may be good
inputs
- Potential to use the newsgroup or other
Internet tools for mentoring
- ~1230 Adjourn
